How does Lumoral help with oral health problems? Dental professionals answer.

Koite Health Oy, a Finnish health technology company, conducted a survey among its clinic partners selling Lumoral devices. Around 30 dental clinics responded to the survey and the results show that Lumoral is particularly recommended for the prevention of oral health problems.

Most common oral health problems among Lumoral customers

The results of the survey reveal that patients suffering from serious oral health problems are the main purchasers of Lumoral from dental clinics. The most common problems were gingivitis, which occurred in 66.7% of respondents, and periodontitis, which was present in 70.4% of those who purchased Lumoral. Peri-implantitis and peri-implant diseases, which are associated with problems around implants, also played a significant role, in 33.3% of patients.

Excessive calculus formation was another common problem, occurring as frequently as gingivitis and periodontitis, in 66.7% of patients. Dental caries, dry mouth and halitosis (bad breath) were less common, but were also present in patients. In addition, plaque and biofilm formation, a key factor in oral health, was reported in 25.9% of those who received Lumoral.

"These results show that Lumoral's potential extends to a wide range of oral health problems. The device offers an effective complement to traditional treatment and is particularly helpful in severe situations where additional support is needed," says Sakari Nikinmaa, CEO of Koite Health.

A typical Lumoral buyer

Lumoral users are typically over 40 years old. According to the survey, more than 90% of those who buy the device fall into this age group, with the highest proportion in the 50-60 age group at 37%, and a much lower proportion in the younger age group of less than 30% at less than 10%.

This age distribution reflects the specific needs and priorities of Lumoral's target group. Oral health problems such as gingivitis, periodontitis and peri-implantitis often become more common with age, increasing the need for additional effective treatments. In addition, with age, tartar build-up, dry mouth and mucosal problems often require special attention and more regular treatment.

The low number of younger users may be due to the fact that they are less likely to have serious oral health problems or do not yet perceive oral health investments as important. However, Lumoral as a preventive treatment could also bring significant improvements to the oral health of younger people and thus to their future oral health.

Around 70% of respondents estimated that more than half of those who bought Lumoral were women.

The role of dental clinics in the purchasing decision

All the dental clinic professionals who responded to the survey felt that their recommendation had a significant influence on their customers' decision to buy Lumoral. Oral health professionals therefore play a key role in communicating the benefits of the device.

"Recommendations from healthcare professionals have a significant impact on the patient's self-care habits and it is natural that the patient receives comprehensive help from oral health professionals. This underlines the need for long-term collaboration between us and oral health professionals," adds Koite Health's Nikinmaa.

Recommended frequency of use

More than 70% of the respondents to the survey said they recommend that their clients use Lumoral twice a week, in line with the oral health guidelines. Twice-weekly Lumoral is particularly suitable for clients who do not have acute oral health problems or who have already managed their conditions such as gingivitis, periodontitis or other oral health challenges.

According to Nikinmaa, the frequency of use of Lumoral is a key factor in its effectiveness in treating a range of oral health problems.  More frequent use at the outset can support professional oral care, which improves long-term outcomes.

"Once the user is used to using Lumoral and the gingivitis, for example, has calmed down in the mouth, the frequency of use can be reduced."

According to Nikinmaa, clinics that use Lumoral as part of their patients' infection control recommend more frequent, even daily, antibacterial use at the beginning of treatment.  This has helped them to achieve excellent treatment results.

Effects of Lumoral on the oral health of clients

Professionals who responded to the survey reported several positive effects of using Lumoral:

  • Reduction of plaque and tartar
  • Relaxation of gingivitis and gingivitis
  • Elimination of gingivitis and gingival recession
  • Relief of mucous membrane problems such as gingivitis
  • Increased saliva secretion in dry mouth sufferers

"I have noticed a significant reduction in plaque staining, a reduction in staining in smokers and a calmer gum appearance, especially in clients with a history of recurrent gingivitis without periodontitis," says a dental clinic representative in the free comment section of the survey.

"Gingivitis and periodontitis are improving significantly," praised another dental professional in a comment.

According to Nikinmaa, the survey shows that Lumoral is an effective additional tool for the treatment and maintenance of oral health problems.

"Its use is particularly popular among clients with severe problems. Recommendations from healthcare professionals play a crucial role in increasing awareness and uptake of the device. Lumoral's adaptive frequency of use and versatile benefits make it a valuable addition to oral health care practice.
